Project Highlight: Reeling in Submarine Cable
The world's oceans are crisscrossed by 1.3 million kilometers of telecommunications and power cables. Ten kilometers of these used to bring electricity from Thailand’s mainland to Ko Sichang, a serene island and fishing community in the Gulf of Thailand. However, the island faced power supply challenges due to frequent damage to the undersea cable from heavy shipping traffic.
In 2019, this recurring issue was resolved by building a small, local power plant. To solve the problem of the damaged cable, which had been lying unused on the seabed for five years, the Provincial Electricity Authority of Thailand commissioned Zeck TSE to design and install a special drum winch.
Our contribution:
- Customized cable drum winch: Designed for a maximum capacity of 13,000 kg.
- Hydraulic power unit: Equipped with a planetary reduction unit to drive the drum stand with automatic tensioning mode.
The project was successfully and efficiently completed in just 5 days, rewinding a total length of approximately 10,000 meters of submarine cable.
